On April 17-18, 2018 the International Living Arts Centre Naves Matadero, sited in Madrid, is hosting a two-day seminar dedicated to the WhoLoDancE project, with the support of our partner Stocos Institute. The seminar is directed to professionals in the dance field as well as anyone interested in getting in contact with the WhoLoDancE mission, principles and achievements, and mostly engage with the prototype tools developed by our Consortium. Among others, visitors will be able to experiment with the Choreomorphy tool, dressing up motion capture devices and dancing while visualising themselves through different avatars, or the sonification tool, which allows to track and visualise one’s movements and change the background music according to the dancer’s position, all by wearing a sensor-equipped bracelet. Also, WhoLoDancE IT experts will guide the audience trying their hands on the project interface tools, such as the blending engine, to create dance sequences from simple movements, the similarity search tool, to execute queries in search of dance movements similar to the ones of interest, or simply exploring the movement library, its collection and features. Last but not least, the audience will have the precious opportunity to attend the dance seminar held by Amalia Markatzi, from our partner Lykeion Ton Hellenidon, on traditional Greek folk dances. Besides introducing the history and features of this longstanding art, Amalia will catch the public and make it part of a live dance performance. About Naves MataderoThe Naves Matadero – International Living Arts Centre aims to create a space for contemporary creation and thinking, with a particular focus on new performing arts languages and on transversality enabling it to operate as a catalyst between creators and citizens; a space where the performing arts, visual arts, literature, philosophy, film, music and transmedia activities are interconnected in an interdisciplinary programme. Research is a basic work tool which has become one of the pillars of the project, present in both its own productions and in joint projects with the other structures that make up Matadero Madrid, as well as with other spaces and institutions. The centre foster innovative projects that enable us to transform our relationship with artistic expression, rethinking the process, strategies and creative impact. It works as part of a network with national and international agents and institutions, uniting artists, collectives, curators, independent cultural agents, etc. Curiosity for theatre, dance, new circus, music, the visual arts, performance and unidentified hybrid forms will allow to define Naves Matadero – International Living Arts Centre as an expanding space which, from its most immediate environment, makes contact with the city and becomes an exceptional centre with the wherewithal to tackle projects at the national and international level. Departing from a time of economic, social and political crisis, the centre aspires to lead the way in a new form of promoting creative processes, causing the abilities of participating collectives to surface, fostering the appearance of new interpretations of reality, researching in order to ensure the emergence of THE NEW, understood not as an absolute term that rejects the PRESENT but as a LEGITIMATE artistic and creative aspiration to serve as an outlet for new perspectives and new ways of acting and of being in a globalised world. |
