Meanwhile, Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons was 2020’s third best-selling title while Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us: Part II was the sixth-best selling title of the year. TLOU 2 was also the top-selling PlayStation exclusive game.
Elsewhere, gaming accessories saw a 21 percent year-over-year increase, bringing in $2.6 billion in revenue. Gamepad spending reached a record high, with Sony’s DualSense Wireless Controller selling the most in dollars and units.Headset spending also reached a new high, with Turtle Beach Ear Force Recon 70 Gaming Headset Black for the Xbox selling the most in dollars and units.
December 2020 also recorded a record-breaking $7.7 billion in total video game sales, a 25 percent year-over-year increase. Video game content accounted for $5.8 billion of that number, hardware sales $1.4 billion and accessories $546 million. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was the best-selling title of December, with CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 the second best. Nintendo, however, was the month’s big winner with half of the top 20 best-selling games over the month published by the Japanese gaming giant.
Total game sales for both December 2020 and the year as a whole reflect total content spends on video games, including full-game, DLC/MTX and subscription consumer spending across console, cloud, mobile, portable, PC and VR platforms.
